It takes awhile for fungus to grow on an apple, the apple will ripen and decay/decompose. Of course as far as your concerned your wondering how long the apples you buy at a store will stay fresh. This depends on how ripe the apple the manufacturer picked was, and how long it sat in a store. In general the span of a grocery store apple is two weeks before you start really noticing decay.
