How long does it take for mold damage to occur from leaking windows?”
I had a leaking window in a brand new house a couple of years ago. I contacted the builder, and a couple of weeks later it was fixed. Turned out it was actually the siding above the window that was the problem. In the meantime we just put a towel in place. In our case we caught it the first time it leaked, so we didn’t sustain any serious water damage. Mold can accumulate in just a month or two in the right conditions. In my brand new house we just built we had a small leak from a plumbing joint in the basement. Only a couple of months after we had moved in, mold formed on the concrete basement floor below this leak. The builder again had it fixed free of charge, in this case it happened that it was only two days because the plumber was working on another house nearby. The moral of the story is that the builder may fix it for you, but your failure to notice it sooner is also at fault for the damage. If there is mold growth then your family will be far more exposed when it is opened up
