It depends on what the merchant uses as their “hold” period for authorizations. The way processing systems normally work is that the hold will drop off after the transaction has been posted to your account. In this case since the transaction will never post to your account, it is dependent upon what the merchant used as the expiration date for the authorization. Greendot’s customer service can normally remove the temporary hold on your card as long as you show proof that the transaction will not post to your account. The cancellation notice you received from the company may suffice; but I cannot say for sure since I don’t know exactly what Greendot’s requirements are for removing holds. Either way, the best thing to do is to call customer service to see what you need to provide to have the hold removed or at least check when the authorization will expire.
