How long does it take for breast milk to replenish after pumping or feeding?
Breastmilk is made continuously. While you’ll obvoiusly get LESS after he’s had a good nursing session or you’ve been pumping for a while, there will always be something. You don’t say how old he is, or if he’s been nursing so frequently since he was born, but young babies DO nurse very often. They do that to get enough to eat (they have tiny tummies and can’t hold much at one time) and because the frequent feeding stimulates your supply. If he’s nursing extremely often and never seems satisfied, it’s possible that you’re dealing with nipple confusion. The bottles he gets have taught him how to suck on the bottle. Then when you put him to the breast, he doesn’t latch correctly. As a result, he gets little milk, he’s always hungry, and your supply goes down. Again, without more details it’s hard to speculate what’s going on, but you’d probably want to speak with an LC who can watch baby nurse and offer hands-on help and focused advice.
