How long does it take for antibiotics to work?
The length of time varies. In general, you should be free of symptoms at least several days before your prescription runs out. I have had antibiotics eliminate symptoms in a single day, and at the other end of the spectrum, i was on antibiotics for over one month before i started to get rid of a sinus infection. If your meds aren’t working, the best thing to do is to call the docs office and tell them the meds don’t seem to be working. They may extend the current treatment or try a different antibiotic.
I would strongly recommend using this website> http://www.webmd.com. It has info about the antibiotic, a symptom checker so you can see how concerned you should be & more. Hope you feel better soon. It’s not easy when you’re pregnant & sick because they don’t want to harm the baby. You can ask for more help at any time you need to. Don’t take no for an answer, even if it means you call other Dr’s. I know it’s frowned on but if you don’t feel you’re getting the best then switch. Hope this helps.
I would call the doctor today. Every antibiotic is different in how it works and how long it takes to work, and the time is also effected by the person taking the antibiotic. Unless you are having a reaction of some kind, do not stop taking your medicine unless the doctor says so. Like I said call the doctor and he can tell you if it should be working yet or not and if you should stay on the antibiotics you are on or if you should be on a different one.
