How long does it take for a psychiatric diagnosis?
I think it is wonderful that you are answering what your psychiatrist asks you. It will help speed up the process and you will get a more accurate diagnosis. If you are not seeing someone else such as a counselor who can relay information to your psychiatrist, it can take several months to even a year. If you are going once every two weeks or so, then you should get a diagnosis in about a month or so. If you aren’t going as frequently, it can take much more time. The doctor needs to spend enough time with you and gather enough information about your feelings and life in order to make sure they’ve got the diagnosis correct. I’m sure they has an idea of what is going on with you now, they just want to make sure before they prescribes medication or diagnoses you.
