How long does it take a hermit crab to molt?
Hermit crabs aren’t snails, so I don’t really know what you’re talking about with the whole shell-hardening stuff. Hermit crabs change into different shells like we change into different clothes, and they shed their exoskeleton like a snake shed’s its skin. The shells are just shells from other animals, the hermit crabs don’t produce or change them. It may not be coming out of the shell for these reasons: 1. It’s scared of you or its surroundings and it will come out when it feels safe. 2. It’s stressed out from the molt or isn’t prepared to be active yet. 3. It may be too cold, too warm, too humid, or not humid enough. I have a site for hermit crabs if you need more help: http://squidoo.
