How long does it normally take for payments to clear?
There are a couple of different ways to answer this question. The payment clears your account on the Payment Date–the date the payment is sent to the payee. From there, an electronic payment will take 2 business days to reach the payee, and a check payment will take 5 days. Even though payments are timed to reach the payee on the Due Date you specify, in the case of check payments, the Cleared Date that shows up in payment history may be several day beyond the Due Date. The reason is that the payee may not immediately deposit the check, and after they do, it could take a couple of days to clear the EECU bill pay account. In other words, the Cleared Date is not a reflection as to when the payment was credited to your account with the payee, so don’t be surprised if takes several days beyond the Due Date for the check to clear.
