How Long Does HIV Take To Show Up In A Blood Test?
When HIV enters the body of an individual then his/her body produce specific protein against HIV. These proteins are called antibodies. A person is said to be HIV positive if he has these antibodies in the blood. These antibodies can be detected within 6-12 weeks after transmission of HIV. Sometimes, it can take 6 months. Time between HIV transmission and development of antibodies is called window period. An infected person can transfer HIV during this period even his antibody test is negative. It is almost rare that HIV antibodies take longer than 6 months to develop. So, if you and your partner are free from HIV antibodies after 6 months then it means that you both are free from HIV provided new exposure to HIV during this period.
