Graphic design is a very competitive field today. There are many opportunities available for designers with a solid education. At one time, many graphic designers were self taught, and to a slight degree this is still possible for those who wish to do only freelance work. In order to be taken seriously by major employers however, a degree from a graphic design school is necessary.
