How long does DNA last? If sealed and stored correctly, a DNA sample can last for an indefinite period of time.
• Can anyone get my DNA without my approval? At the time of collection, you are given the opportunity to provide us with the names and social security numbers of persons you authorize to have access to your sample. You may add or remove names from this list at any time. Your DNA can only be released to you or the people on your list. Also, a sample can be released through court order. • Is this confidential? Yes. Our DNA Banking service is strictly confidential. No one will know that your DNA is on file at DDC unless you tell them. • What if I want my DNA from you in a few years (or at any time after it is stored)—can I have it? Yes. We will release the DNA sample to you or to any other authorized person at any time it is requested. We will require an authorization form to be signed before we can release the sample. • I’ve heard that it matters what probes are used for testing. Can you explain what that means?
