How long does an Achilles heel wound take to heal?
The treatment for a ruptured achilles tendon can vary. Some patients have an operation to rejoin the tendon, others are placed in a plaster in a particular position for may weeks which allows the tendon to rejoin. Our patients who have had surgery also usually have a plaster cast (in a position called ‘equinuus’) Whilst the tendon itself heals very well using either method, patients often find that the position they have been in to allow healing, leaves them requiring physio to get them going again. Patients often find that they feel particularly stiff afterwards. Total healing time can be in excess of 12 weeks. Good luck.
