On average, tort trials take about 22 months to a resolution. As always, some types of cases take longer than others. In 2001, medical-malpractice cases took the longest to reach a trial disposition at 29 months. Product-liability cases took about 26 months to resolve, and motor-vehicle cases were resolved at about 20 months.
