You should at least cycle for two weeks. Introduce some organic matter to the water to speed things up. You can usually buy some kind of solution from a pet store to speed things up. I suggest getting “Bio Boost” from Jack’s Aquarium Supplies. Hopefully there is one close to you. Any supply store should have some though, just ask the staff. What also helps a lot is if you already have a healthy established aquarium, use water from that to fill up your new tank about halfway, and top it off with new water. This will speed things up a lot too. Buy yourself a water test kit, and test your water daily. Once you see the ammonia spike come and go you know you are ready to start adding fish. Let me know if you have any problems or have any other questions.
