I believe it takes the fertilized egg about a week to implant into the uterus, so before that there would be no hormone manufactured by the body and the pregnancy would be undetectable. I would wait at least two weeks (which would put you right around the time your period is due, anyway) and have the doctor perform a blood test, which is more accurate and able to detect lower levels of the pregnancy hormone than a home test. A home test, while convenient for most women, is pretty useless in the long run since you still have to go to the doctor to confirm the results. Save yourself $20 and just head straight for the ob-gyn.
