How long do they live?
Border Collies are fairly long-lived dogs. Their average lifespan, barring accidents, is probably around 12 to 13 years, and it isn’t at all unusual to find individuals that are 14 years and older. They usually hold their age well – a 12-year-old Border Collie often still looks and acts like a young dog.
Truth is, we’re not really sure. In South America, they can live for about 15-20 years. But the alpacas was only recently brought to North America (significant numbers were first imported in 1984), so we don’t have enough data yet to know how long they will live under the conditions found here. We hope they will live at least twenty years and perhaps significantly longer.
