How long do they have to live in UK to gain British citizenship?
Here is the rule: To attain British citizenship other than marriage to a British citizenship, (no matter if an applicant is EEC National or not); 1) Must live in UK for continuous period of 5 years. (with less than 90 days break per year) 2) In the 5th year, he must not spend more than 60 days (in one calender year) out of UK. 3) Must have paid TAXES. 4) Must speak English. 5) (Unless EU National) Must not have claimed public funds (benefits). There is a culture test that everyone must pass before taking the oath to be acclaimed citizen. The test defines the history & culture of Britain. IELTS with band 5.5 (or equal qualification) is required also.
