How long do the credit bureaus take to respond to a dispute?
By law, CRAs are allowed 30 days to investigate. They contact the creditor that submitted the information to verify its accuracy and then, within ten business days, the bureaus must send to the consumer an updated report. If the creditor does not respond by the deadline the disputed information is deleted permanently. Occasionally, a good line of credit is deleted when some minor error should have been corrected. In that case, the creditor must be contacted to re-insert the account correctly.
