How long do surgeons have to go to school?

first is four years of college, then four years of medical school … with that you get your M.D., but that’s just a scholastic degree to show you’ve completed the education and you can’t really do anything with it … next comes Internship, and after that you get your license to practice medicine, and theoretically you could open an office, but most choose to specialize … so far, up to this point it’s the same for all docs, but to be a specialist you have to do a Residency, which is where you concentrate on just your chosen field, and the length of time for that depends on the specialty … if you want to be a Pediatrician, it’s 3 more years … Anesthesiologist (which I am) is also 3 years … O.B./Gyne is 4 years … General Surgery is 5 years … and if you want to get even more specialized. like a heart surgeon or brain surgeon, it’s even another 1 to 3 years after that …
