How long do people with down syndrome live?
The real truth is that it is a guessing game for the docs at this point. Someone with Downs can live well into their late 40’s, 50’s. The unfortunate thing is that it is not the downs that causes early death but other factors such as heart and blood pressure. If your cousin has a strong heart she could live very long. My cousin died at age 47 and it was because of a brain bleed. He was a wonderful human being that I totally adored. He called me barbie and always told me I was his girlfriend. There is a brother and sister that come to mass on Sundays and they are in their 50s – she drives…so it really does depend on the other issues that someone with down may face. I hope that you have your cousin for a very long time. People with Down are wonderful angels!!!!
