How long do 3rd degree burns take to heal?
It depends on the area involved. Basically the burn has to heal from the edges although it may form a protective coating called eschar before proper healing has occurred. Because healing is slow larger burns are usually grafted or treated with one of the new biological dressings. Wound contraction or hypertrophic scarring can also be a problem after 3rd degree burns and treatment of burns covering much of the body usually takes months if not years before the final best cosmetic result is achieved.
