How long did slavery last in the United states?
Many might date to 1863 with the issuing of the Emancipation Proclamation, but not all US slaves were freed by the Proclamation. Slave states on the Union side were excluded, Nor does being freed by the Union while in Confederated jurisdiction does not help the enslaved much. Some might argue that Slaves in the Confederate States don’t count as they are not in the Union, but the whole Union Justification for the war is that the southern states are part of the Union.
