How long did it take to film Hoot?
This movie was about 42 days. We shot two cameras most of the time, but we have kids on a clock. We can only work kids 9 hours. It was shot when the kids didn’t have to go to school? They didn’t have to go to school. When we went back, towards the end, they had to do some schooling in the last few weeks of the shoot. Any problems with the weather? The weather was challenging. We had four hurricanes. [Hurricane] Katrina came right over and we shut down. We actually showed up at work like at 6:00 in the morning, and then at 7:30, everybody goes, “Go home and batten down your house.” So everybody went home to get their boats out of the water and get ready. And it came over as a Category 1 and just blew, and then it, of course, went to the gulf and became big. But on the back side of that, the weather’s always great…And because the movie’s about the environment and about protecting little creatures and everything, I always said we had really good weather karma.
