Construction for the $132 million facility took about 18 months. Architects and hospital administration began designing the new tower about two years prior to construction. As a licensed hospital in the state of North Carolina, North Carolina Baptist Hospital had to ask the state for permission to add the additional tower by applying for what is called a Certificate of Need or CON. Once the state approved the CON, construction began.
