How long can you usually park in a supermarket car park before being fined?

There should be a sign or signs as you enter the car park and placed around the car park stating how long the maximum stay is for that car park. At the supermarket I work at its just been reduced from 3 hours to 2 hours free parking due to people parking up and going into town. In the supermarkets elsewhere near where I work its also 2 hours.
