How long can one be put on probation (in Ohio) for if that individual is a first time offender for a non-violent, drug related crime?
This is all up to the Judge. Just because your crime was nonviolent has nothing to do with the sentencing guidelines for drug offenses. The fact you are a first offender does not guarantee you instant probation either. You could have so many months in jail/prison and probation on top of that as well. And please do not confuse the sentence that your friend “John or Andy or whoever” got for approximately the same crime with what your sentence will be. Doesn’t work that way.
