How long can I expect to receive financial assistance in the form of an assistantship?
Assistantships are granted annually and are renewable for a maximum of four years. Renewal depends on satisfactory performance of duties and satisfactory academic progress (i.e., enrolling in the necessary courses, performing well, and progressing in dissertation research after coursework is completed). A fifth year of assistantship funding may be possible in some cases. This requires a positive recommendation initiated by the dissertation chair, including a justification of why the additional support is needed. The DSIS DGS evaluates such requests in light of the overall needs of the DSIS doctoral program, the rationale expressed in the dissertation chairs recommendation, and the anticipated financial situation involving assistantships. That evaluation is presented to the DGS of the Business Administration doctoral program (of which DSIS is a part) for inclusion in his/her deliberations.
