How long can each J-1 employee work for us?
Under the J-1 Work and Travel Program regulations, each J-1 can work for a maximum of 4 months in the U.S., and then they are permitted to travel (but not work) for up to an additional month. However, many countries require their participants to return earlier than the maximum 4 month work period (so the program does not interfere with the schedule of their college studies), so we will review with you the best recruitment locations to best meet your seasonal staffing needs. Often, international college students in their final year of studies are allowed to stay the maximum length of time. Under the J-1 Internship/Trainee Program, participants are allowed to stay 12-18 months, depending upon their career path. This Program has substantially more regulations and requirements than the J-1 Work and Travel Program, so please speak with us before considering this option.
