How long can diesel fuel be stored?
Typical diesel fuel can be stored for approximately 6 months without additives or filtering. Diesel fuel may be stored indefinitely if anti microbial additives are added and the fuel is circulated and filtered. Basically the fuel needs additives to prevent bacterial growth and to stabilize the diesel fuel. Additionally filtering and moisture removal will increase the longevity of the fuel and availability during emergency. Many examples can be found were improper fuel storage and handling has resulted in the failure of an emergency generator when called upon to operate.
