How long can an infected person spread H1N1 to others?
People with H1N1 influenza are contagious as long as they feel sick and possibly up to 7 days following illness onset. Children, especially younger children, may be contagious for longer periods. H1N1 can stay active on surfaces for 2-8 hours. A person is no longer contagious after being fever free for 24 hours without the aid of fever reducing medications.
