How long can a person on a temporary visa stay at UCSC and work or visit?
UCSC sponsors visas for academic employees (both with and without salary) for the period of their appointments within the limitations of the immigration regulations. Normally this is for duration of studies for F-1 students; up to 5 years for J-1 scholars; and 6 years on H-1B visas. The B1/B2 or WB/WT classification allows for visits, conference participations and collaborations, and some limited payments; but such visitors are not eligible to be employees.
