How long can a debtor chase a debt is there a statute of limitations?

7 years after you last have contact with the company. Then after that they can no longer go after you. If they send you any letters…throw them away. If they call, hang up. If you respond to them in any way the time starts from that point. I have a debt from 15 years ago that keeps getting sold to collection companies. I receive 1 or 2 letters a year saying they will accept half payment or something like that. I just throw them away. After 7 years I told all the credit reporting agencies to remove it from my credit file.
