How long before the five guys up front resemble an NFL offensive line?
The key to any line is continuity, and the Hawks simply have not had it for the last three or four years. This year is starting off no differently, and that bodes poorly for the offense overall. The Hawks’ best line configuration would probably be LT Russell Okung, LG Chester Pitts, C Chris Spencer, RG Max Unger and RT Sean Locklear or Stacy Andrews. Unfortunately, Okung will miss at least the first two games with a high ankle sprain and Pitts is very slowly coming back from microfracture knee surgery and will be working at left tackle until Okung is ready. Spencer is not a good center, but the Hawks don’t have a better option since Unger is at right guard. And the new coaching staff apparently did not watch film on Spencer from the last three years.
