Since the enzymes do thin the blood somewhat, patients should stop taking them 2 to 3 days prior to surgery. It takes 24 hours for systemic enzymes to clear the body. You can resume taking the enzymes 2 to 3 days post operatively, provided you are not taking prescription blood thinners.
