How long before a cat that has kittens go into its next “heat” cycle?
I would call the vet and make an apt for the day they turn 8 weeks old. I found out the hard way, I didn’t think they went into heat while they were nursing, not true. I took my momma cat when her kittens were 10 weeks old and when I went to get her they told me she also had an abortion, i’m totally against it even with animals but he said it would have been dangerous for her and the kittens if he didn’t take them. He said it really depends on the cat, they can go back into heat anywhere from six to eight weeks of having kittens. To be on the safe side make sure she don’t get out of the house until she is spayed. Also it was harder for her to recover from the surgery, she would only wake up a few seconds and go right back out, it scared me but she finally acted normal two days later and he said it was because she had an abortion and it was hard for her body to get used to it. Cats can come into heat (and become pregnant) even while nursing a litter of kittens. I’d make absolutely certain that she can’t get out, or that no unneutered males come near her, and make a spay appointment for her for 6 weeks from yesterday. This way the kittens will be 8 weeks old, and won’t be relying on her for nursing. She technically could be spayed now – cats that have c-section deliveries, or pyrometria nurse their kittens after their surgery – but I would think that would be a bit uncomfortable for her.
