If there is food in the house, mice will stay for awhile. Depending on how humane you are there are different traps that can be done to exterminate. Mouse traps, using peanut butter, sticky traps ( make sure you know where you put them or they will eventually decompose on you. My favorite method is using a 5 gal bucket, drill two holes at the very top on the sides directly across from each other. Take a soda bottle, drill a hole the same size as the mouth piece on the bottom. Slide a dowel smaller then the size of the holes in the bottle through the bottle and into the 5 gal bucket. So the bottle is in the center of the bucket. Fill the bucket with water ( mix with anti-freeze in the winter) 1/4 full. Add peanut butter on the side of the bottle. Create a make shift ramp for the mice to the dowel. The mice will drown, then dump them outside.

if a mouse came into my house, it would probably feel sorry for me, all the cupboards are totally empty, I never eat indoors, not even breakfast, a mouse in my house would not live long, the typical batchelor lifestyle and i love it lol. Mice can survive on very little food, well small compared to what a human eats, they will eat flies and insects if there is no ther food souce, so in theory a mouse could live for it’s entire life about two years or so, in your house, breeding and creating all types of other problems, they will chew wires, make holes through drywall and although they are small, they cause havock on some homes.
