How long are placements?
While there are limited short-term (3–6 month) placements available for specialized placements or volunteers with significant experience, the majority of our placements are still two years. We would therefore encourage volunteers to please consider two-year placements. The reason the majority of our placements are two years in length is that our experience has shown us that it takes some time to adapt, build relationships, be effective and make an impact. It is interesting to note that more than one third of our volunteers either extend their placements while overseas or re-volunteer a few years after they’ve returned from their original placement.
