How likely is lung cancer to spread to other parts of the body?
Lung cancer is the leading cause of death from cancer worldwide. Lung cancers are staged based on the primary tumor, lymph node involvement, and distant metastases of the cancer. Ath the time of initial diagnosis, about 50% of patients have mestastasis. Left untreated, all patients with lung cancer will have metastases at some point if they do not die sooner.
