How large may a flag be?

In the Netherlands, the proportions for a horizontal flag are 1:1.5. There are actually no set proportions for a vertical flag. As far as length goes, as a rough guide you can deduct one metre from the length of the flagpole and divide the remainder by 2. For example: A 7-metre flagpole (above ground level) needs a flag length of 7-1 = 6, divided by 2 = 300 cm. This equates to a horizontal flag of 200 x 300 cm or a vertical flag of 120 x 300 cm or 150 x 300 cm. The choice of shape and size depends on the place where the flag will hang and the message it is to communicate. The specific sizes are given in the ‘Flags’ section under ‘Designs & sizes’ in the submenu.
