How large may a flag be?
In the Netherlands, the proportions for a horizontal flag are 1:1.5. There are actually no set proportions for a vertical flag. As far as length goes, as a rough guide you can deduct one metre from the length of the flagpole and divide the remainder by 2. For example: A 7-metre flagpole (above ground level) needs a flag length of 7-1 = 6, divided by 2 = 300 cm. This equates to a horizontal flag of 200 x 300 cm or a vertical flag of 120 x 300 cm or 150 x 300 cm. The choice of shape and size depends on the place where the flag will hang and the message it is to communicate.
