how is Virtualization important in the emerging information & technology sector?
There are multiple aspects of virtualization that make a simple answer difficult. There’s hardware virtualization that is primarily virtualization of I/O that enables redundancy and high-availability in data center scenarios using commodity storage hardware and SAN equipment. There are companies that are now working on virtualization of memory and CPU as well as I/O turning an entire frame of inexpensive rack mounted CPUs into a mainframe class solution. Then there’s the hypervisor virtualization market that enable multiple server and workstation environments to be running on the same hardware, thus driving better asset utilization. In all these scenarios, keeping costs low is a big factor, but not just the obvious costs, hidden costs too, such as wiring, power consumption and manageability.
