How is venture philanthropy different from other types of charitable donation vehicles?
Our grant recipients are held to the same rigorous standards as if they were receiving money from a for-profit organization. Researchers are selected because we believe they are able to identify viable drug targets with commercial potential.For-profit venture capital tends to be averse to long-term, high-risk ventures. Only a small fraction of venture capital goes to biotechnology companies, and an even smaller fraction of that is dedicated to Alzheimer’s drug discovery. ADDF bridges that gap in the drug discovery continuum because we take on risk that a private investor may not be willing to absorb.
