How is vacuum measured, what is CFM, and how much vacuum is needed for veneering?

In vacuum veneering, the vacuum level is usually measured in terms of inches of mercury (” of Hg). CFM or “cubic feet per minute” will only describe the speed at which the vacuum is created. It is a measurement of the amount of air volume that can be moved within a specified time frame. The “CFM” rating will not give you an idea as to the maximum possible vacuum pressure. For vacuum veneering, you’ll need a minimum of 18″ of Hg. However, the recommended pressure for most adhesives is 21″ of Hg.
