How is United Way of New York City connected to United Way of America (UWA)?
Like more than 1,300 local United Ways across the country, United Way of New York City is separately incorporated and is independently governed by a local board of community leaders and volunteers. The money raised in New York City stays here, supporting local health and human service programs throughout the five boroughs. United Way of America is the national service and training center which supports local United Ways with a national advertising and promotion program, a partnership with the National Football League, training for United Way professionals and volunteers and a national network allowing United Ways to share best practices and other information. Local United Ways pay for these services through annual dues. United Way of America does not raise or distribute funds.
