In Civ III, unit experience is represented with hit points. “Normal” units have 3 hit points, Veteran units have 4, and Elite units have 5. Conscripted units have only 2 hit points. Conscript units can be received when exploring barbarian villages (“Goody huts”), and are also produced when you use the draft to produce soldiers.
