How is Trazodone used to treat dementia?
People with dementia frequently exhibit symptoms of depression and their doctors will try different antidepressants to try to help them feel better. Trazodone and dementia can go together, but I think most doctors would try a newer antidepressant, as Trazodone can make people very sleepy and many people with dementia can sleep too much. Of course, if the person with dementia has trouble sleeping at night, the doctor may try Trazodone as a combination sleep aid and antidepressant. Any kind of medication needs to be carefully monitored when give to someone with dementia, as these folks often can’t tell a caregiver if they feel better or not. How is Trazodone used to treat dementia is a good question, though I don’t think it’s often used.
