How is TradeFIT different from how trades personnel are currently trained?
Currently, after completing pre-trades training at CPIT many trades’ people receive training from their employers. While this meets their employers’ immediate needs, it hasn’t necessarily provided the breadth of understanding and depth of skills required to build, maintain, upgrade and fix New Zealand infrastructure. Where there are few local employers in certain industries able to provide on-the-job training, skills have been lost with no obvious way to replace them. This shortage threatens New Zealand’s ability to grow economically and support the knowledge economy.
