How is Toothpaste Made?

0

From humble beginnings thousands of years ago, toothpaste has been made from ground fish bones, sand and other abrasive materials. In the mid 1800’s modern toothpaste was born. Starting in 1934, the American Dental Association set standards that needed to be met. Toothpaste needs a binder to hold liquid and dry ingredients together. An abrasive, such as chalk or baking soda is also needed. A foamer is also needed. Two more common ingredients are humectcants and flavorings such as mint or cinnamon. The ingredients are weighed, mixed, and high pressure blown into tubes. The tubes get crimped and sealed and they are pretty much ready to go to market.
