The website was created to be used as a classroom resource for grades 3 – 12. The suggested activities were developed according to the Illinois State Board of Education learning goals and objectives in social studies and language arts for these grade levels. Teachers helped create the site as beta-testers and advisors to the curriculum writer. When schools tap in and use the information on the website and include the site as a resource for students, then the partnership will be complete. This is not a virtual tour but rather an electronic resource making museum collections, primary source materials, and scholarship available to students and teachers. The website offers suggestions for ways to build classroom activities around the exhibit, and thus to develop students’ critical thinking, reading and writing skills.
