How is this different than ABORs 2004-2005 proposal to separate ASU West?
My revised restructuring plan is a merger of two university branch campuses (ASU West and Polytechnic) into a “complete”, free-standing state university (AzTech) that is then housed at the Polytechnic campus location. It is not financially feasible to put this “merged” university at the West campus because relocating the engineering and technology programs would be too expensive and impractical. From a statewide perspective, the Polytechnic campus is better positioned along the growing Phoenix-Tucson corridor for this merger to succeed. The current ASU West faculty would not have to lose their research responsibilities upon relocating to AzTech. ASU already “gutted” the West campus by previously disestablishing many of its original degree programs (e.g., business, human services). There would not be a tiered governance system under my plan because all public universities in Arizona would still report directly to the existing governing board (ABOR).
