How is this campaign related to Seattle Ballot Initiative 97 from 2008?
Before the I-97 campaign had a chance to turn in its signatures, a King County Superior Court judge ruled that Seattle voters have no authority to set any guidelines for the Seattle City Employees’ Retirement System (SCERS) board. However, he did not rule against guidelines in general — he simply ruled that only the SCERS board can set the guidelines. Therefore, the current online petition campaign is aimed at convincing the SCERS board that they should adopt the language of I-97, because it is consistent with the guidelines that they themselves adopted at their December 2008 meeeting.
